I’m Marita, it’s great to meet you

I’m from London but I’ve lived in the Hudson Valley since 2001. Both are home to me. I’ve been creating my whole life but my relationship with art deepened after my stroke. It opened the creative juices in my brain and art began to flow out of me. In therapy, I was called to ask my husband to bring me my art set. I didn’t want to sit there and dwell all day every day - I needed to move the energy through me. So I fell in love with creating. Painting was something I could complete and it made me feel whole again.

I created a bit of a splash at the rehabilitation center. It started with my nurse assistants coming in to see what I was working on, and then they told their friends. After a couple weeks, I had people going out of their way to see my creations. I found painting put smiles on people’s faces and it was so fulfilling to achieve something meaningful at a time where I was in repair.

I now paint everything from birthday cards to landscapes, seascapes, mammals, flowers, and everything in between. I keep my subjects expansive and I paint what comes to me. I hope you find something in my art that opens you, brings you joy, and that you connect with!
